Because windows make up 10% of a home’s insulated structure, buildings use 35% of all the energy consumed in the U.S. Windows are also where homeowners can lose as much as 50% of their home’s cooled air or heat. How to Take Advantage of the Tax Credit
Purchase and install qualifying products by December 31, 2016. Qualifying products are eligible for a tax credit of 10% of the cost, up to $500 in total during the 2016 tax year. $500 is the maximum combined total amount that can be claimed for all purchases of qualifying energy-efficient products placed in service during this period. This is subject to reduction in the amount of Section 25C tax credits taken in prior years. The tax credit for your qualifying Hunter Douglas product is 10% of the purchase price of the product only (excluding sales tax and measuring and installation charges), up to $500. The tax credit is subject to a lifetime limitation of $500. Be sure to consult your tax advisor regarding your individual tax situation and your ability to claim this tax credit.
