Using Cornices as Design Elements for Any Room

Refresh a Room With Cornices

Cornices add character and interest to any room. They can provide a finishing touch or simply create a focal point for the eye to travel to. At Windows & More serving the Lake Ozark area, our trained professionals will be happy to help you determine if a cornice will work in your room.

Types of Cornices

There are two types of cornices. Soft Cornice, which is a box covered in fabric that goes beyond the sides and bottom of the window. With extensive fabric libraries, trims, colors, and textures to choose from, soft cornice possibilities are endless. Hard Cornice, which is made from wood or faux wood materials, with no fabric. Hard cornices add a customized feel by blending in to your home’s structure and making a seamless statement.

Reasons to Add a Cornice to Your Window Treatments

Cornices will take your room from ordinary to extraordinary. Available in several colors and stains, your options are limitless—you can blend with your wall color or add an accent color. Plus, cornices not only provide decorative elements; they also cover up a blind’s or a shade’s unsightly control mechanism.

Things to Consider When Selecting Custom Cornices

One thing to consider when thinking of adding a cornice is whether you want your window to stand out or blend in. Also remember that a cornice will immediately draw the eye upward, making the room seem larger. Hunter Douglas offers Parkland™ Wood Cornices that add the finishing touch to your window treatment. They are available in six profiles that will coordinate with your room’s décor.

All Hunter Douglas products are designed and custom-assembled in the United States.
