Last month, Windows & More introduced you to the Pantone Minion Yellow color, an exciting piece of news in the color world. And this month, we’re happy to tell you about the Colors of the Year for 2016—they’re Rose Quartz and Serenity, chosen by the Color Marketing Group and the Pantone Color Institute. Read on to learn more, and if you decide you’d like to add these—or any other color—to your home, talk to one of our trained consultants to determine how best to move forward.
Why Were These Colors Chosen?
According to the Pantone Color Institute, today’s consumers are looking for ways to escape the rampant stressors of modern life and to reach a sense of well-being. They feel that Rose Quartz (which they describe as conveying “compassion and a sense of composure”) and Serenity (which they describe as being “like the expanse of blue sky above us”) combine and balance to bring a sense of “respite and relaxation” and a “sense of order and peace.” For more information, to see these colors in action, and to find out about suggested color pairings, click here.
More on Pantone®
Pantone established the first color matching system (the Pantone Matching system or simply PMS) in 1963. They system helps ensure consistent color selection. Today, Pantone is the main reference tool for all industries when they work to match colors and forecasted hues. The PMS system uses a standardized Pantone numbering system to identify each color, making it easy for anyone to refer to a specific color. Here are the Pantone color numbers for the colors of the year:
- Rose Quartz—Pantone color 13-1520
- Serenity—Pantone color 15-3919
Trending Colors in Interior Design
As mentioned, the above colors are leading the way this year. If you like to be on trend, add a splash or more of Rose Quartz and Serenity to your home. Or, if you don’t like those colors, wait a year, and new ones will come out. Remember that trends are just that—trends!
